Caribbean Sea to the east. Compared to other Central American countries, Belize has a great advantage in the tourism industry. It's because they're the only country in that region that using English as official language. Belize also has the least population among the Central American nations.

With Caribbean sea as the east coast, Belize tourist attractions focused on the water. It has the Belize Barrier Reef and over 1,000 offshore Cayes (islands). This makes Belize an ideal place for fishing, boating, scuba diving, and snorkeling, numerous rivers for rafting, and kayaking.

Off the coast of Belize, near the center of Lighthouse Reef, lies The Great Blue Hole. This is a large underwater sinkhole with circular shape and over 300 meters (984 ft) across and 124 meters (407 ft) deep.

This Great Blue Hole of Belize was made famous by Jacques-Yves Cousteau, who declared it one of the top ten scuba diving sites in the world. Scuba divers are lured by the opportunity to dive in crystal-clear water and meet several species of fish, including giant groupers, nurse sharks and several types of reef sharks such as the Caribbean reef shark and the Blacktip shark.

Divers with an appreciation of geographical phenomena will love this spot. With warm temperature (approx. 76 degrees Fahrenheit / 25 degrees Celcius) and low water circulation, makes this botomless pit very ideal for diving. If you get lucky, maybe you can meet the Great Blue Hole's monster, a giant serpent who spotted by some divers in late 60's and early 70's.
