Maho Beach might be not the most beautiful beach in the world, but it has its own value that makes Maho Beach one of the most exotic vacation places. Located in St Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles and facing the west of the Caribbean Sea, this beach is known worldwide because it's adjacent to Princess Juliana International Airport.
The airport itself has a very short runaway, makes the airplane has to fly low before landing on the very tip of the runaway, and that's including large plane such as Boeing 747. This situation attracts tourist, including the one who likes to spot and take a photo of airplane.
Watching airplanes over the beach is the most popular activity in Maho Beach. Daily arrivals and departures airline timetables are displayed on a board in most bars and restaurants on the beach, and the Sunset Beach Bar and Grill has a speaker on its outside deck that broadcasts the radio transmissions between pilots and the airport's control tower.
Be very wary though, because this airplanes watching activity can become an extreme condition on Maho Beach. People standing on the beach may also be blown into the water because of the jet blast from aircraft taking off. The local government warns that closely approaching and departing aircraft can "result in serious injury and/or death."
Maho Beach is a almost white powdery sand beach with no natural shades, like trees. Loungers and umbrellas are available for rent. The beach can also experience large waves which makes it popular with windsurfers and skimboarders.
Maho Beach also has several resorts, hotels and beach bars/restaurants in walking distance. Facilities closeby include the Caravanserai Resort, Sonesta Maho, and Maho Beach Resort.
