The Baiturrahman Grand Mosque has been the most famous landmark in Aceh with famous Acehnese historical and cultural background in the past, such as historical Netherland Indie in the Aceh Land. The Mosque with is it excellent architectural style and design has been a pride for Acehnese and been one of Indonesia prime tourism. Historically, it was also a symbol of a strength and struggle of Acehnese people during the dutch colonialization. The mosque is also remembered as a sacred place that has hundreds of Acehnese people from devastating Tsunami yhat hit Aceh in last December 26 2004.
Located in the central of the city Banda Aceh, the mosque was built sometimes around 12th century. In Acehnese history, the mosque had experienced dark era in Aceh history through several fires, including once when the Duthc attacked Banda Aceh in 1873. The Duthc military government later reconstructed it and was completed in 1883. It has seven union shaped domes, four small minarets within mosque structure and a tall minaret right in front of the entrance gate. Its wide white walls and pillars are beautifully decorated.
The Baiturrahman Grand Mosque has been one important spiritual tourist destinations in Aceh that is frequented by foreign tourist, especially from Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.
